WIFI

Advantages and Disadvantages of  WiFi networks - Wi-Fi is a well known technology that utilizes electronic equipment to exchange data wirelessly (using radio waves) wirelessly through a computer network, including high-speed Internet connection. Wi-Fi Alliance Wi-Fi defines as "a product of wireless local area networks (WLAN) based on any standard Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11". Even so, since most WLANs today are based on these standards, the term "Wi-Fi" is used in common English as a synonym "WLAN"

Excess WiFi:

* Wi-Fi and cordless developed using radio waves with a frequency of 2.4 GHz. Besides Wi-Fi can transmit and receive capacity of up to 54Mbps.
* Wi-Fi network access point / hot spot, can communicate to all client computers and laptop.Wireless: PCMACIA / PC Card, Gateway, servers, modems, routers and proxies.
* Enables wireless LAN to be used, typically reducing the costs of network deployment and expansion. Spaces where cables can not be run, such as outdoor areas and historical buildings, can use the Wireless LAN.
* Wi-Fi Prices continue to fall, making Wi-Fi a very economical choice about the network
* Product Wi-Fi is widely available in the market.
* Wi-Fi networks support roaming, in which a mobile client station such as a laptop computer can move from one access point to another access point
* Wi-Fi is a global standard. Unlike mobile operators, Wi-Fi clients the same work in different countries around the world.
* Widespread in more than 250,000 public place, millions of homes, businesses and universities around the world.
* New protocols for Quality of Service (WMM) and power saving mechanisms (WMM Power Save) make Wi-Fi more suitable for latency-sensitive applications (such as voice and video) and small form-factor devices.

Disadvantages WiFi:

* The weakness lies in the configuration and type of encryption. Tersbut weakness caused by too easy to build a wireless network.
* Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) is a wireless security standard previously can be easily solved with a variety of tools that are available free on the internet.
* Distribution of Waves and operational limitations are not consistent worldwide.
* Power consumption is quite high when compared to some other standards, making battery life and reduced heat.
* WiFi networks have limited range. A home WiFi router may have a range of 45m (150ft) indoor and 90m (300ft) outside the home.
* WiFi uses unlicensed 2.4GHz spectrum, which is often collide with other devices such as Bluetooth, microwave ovens, cordless phones, or video sender devices, many others. This can cause performance degradation.
* The access point can be used to steal personal and confidential information is transmitted from the consumer WiFi.
* Intervention in a closed or encrypted access point with other open access points on the same line or close to prevent access to open access points by others in the area. This poses a problem in areas of high density high as a large apartment block where many residents operated WiFi access points.
* Free access points can be used by unknown people and dangerous to carry out attacks that would be very difficult to trace out the owner of the access point.
